Junior Brandice Balschmiter (Newark, N.Y.) was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league on Monday. Balschmiter went 3-0 during the week, giving up just two runs while striking out 28 with two shutouts. The first shutout came against South Florida where she gave up just three hits while striking out a season-high 11 batters. Against Fordham, Balschmiter gave up two runs on four hits while striking out six in the 4-2 win. The second shutout of the week came against La Salle where she struck out 11 in the 9-0 win. The game against La Salle was her fourth one-hitter and seventh shutout of the season. Balschmiter is now 9-6 with a 0.92 ERA on the season.
Balschmiter previously was named Pitcher of the Week back in February (2/18)and at the beginning of March (3/3). Last week, teammate Bailey Sanders received the honor.
The softball team will host Dartmouth on Wednesday in a double header for the home opener. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
