UMass Rowing Heads To Philly To Compete In Dad Vail Regatta The UMass women's rowing team will head to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in one of the oldest and most prestigious regattas in the country. The UMass women's rowing team raced on Saturday at the ECAC Championships in Camden, N.J. The Varsity Eight took fourth, while the JV Eight placed second, and the Novice Eight placed third. (more)
Three UMass rowers were named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All Conference Team. Junior Airlina Burrill (Eastham, Mass.), senior Sarah Marsan (Cincinnati, Ohio), and senior Amy Rayla (Still River, Mass.) earned the academic honors in voting conducted among the Conference's sports information directors. The UMass women's rowing team placed second at the Atlantic 10 Championship, falling to Rhode Island on Saturday on the Cooper River near Camden, N.J. Previously, the Minutewomen had won the event in 12 straight years--the longest streak in any sport in Atlantic 10 history. The Minutewomen finished with 119 points, ousted by the Rams with 135, and followed by Saint Joseph's with 113 for third and Dayton with 81 for fourth
On Saturday, April 19, the UMass women's rowing team looks to extend the longest Atlantic 10 Championship streak in any sport when they compete on the Cooper River. Last year, the Minutewomen defeated Rhode Island by a single point to mark the closest finish in conference history. UMass won the championship on the backs of the quad boat, which finished 24 seconds in front of second place URI for the second-fastest time in Atlantic 10 Championship history.
The UMass women's varsity eight placed sixth overall at the 2008 Knecht Cup, held Saturday and Sunday April 12-13 in Camden N.J. The varsity quad placed first overall, while the second varsity eight finished second. The regatta provided competition for over 50 schools from all over the country. This was the last race before the Atlantic 10 Championships, held on the same river.
