         <description><![CDATA[<li><a href="http://www.soccerfest.org" class="pagelinks">Complete Information On SoccerFest</a><br>The UMass men's and women's soccer teams will cap their spring seasons this Saturday afternoon with exhibition games against the Western Mass Pioneers and the Adirondack Lynx highlighting the Sport Management Department's annual SoccerFest. The men's game will kick off at 1 PM, while the women's game will begin at approximately 3:30 PM. Both games will take part at Rudd Field. The UMass Men's team is coming off the most successful season in the program's history as it advanced to the NCAA Final Four. The men's game will feature a special ceremony honoring the 75th anniversary of the soccer program at the university, while the women's game will feature special Mother's Day Weekend festivities during the game.]]></description>

The night was a time reflect on the magical season that saw the Minutemen reach the NCAA College Cup for the first time in program history after winning the Atlantic 10 Championship and winning four straight games in the NCAA Tournament.]]></description>

A key component for the National Player Of The Year award was an online fan vote in which Simmons received an amazing 61 percent. Andre Akpan of Harvard was the next closest in the vote receiving 12 percent. With the award, he becomes the first UMass soccer player to earn a National Player of the Year honor.]]></description>

Simmons also is one of the finalists for the UMBRO/Soccer News Net National Player of the Year Award. That winner will be announced Monday, January 14. The Minutemen made the NCAA Tournament earning a spot in the College Cup and the National Semifinals for the first time in school history. The last time UMass was ranked in the top 25 was during the 2006 season with a No. 22 ranking after starting the year 5-0-1. Simmons is one of four players to represent programs in the Northeast. After being picked 10th in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches Poll, Koch led UMass to the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship title, the second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, and a historic run all the way to the NCAA National Semifinals.
