The UMass men's and women's soccer teams will cap their spring seasons this Saturday afternoon with exhibition games against the Western Mass Pioneers and the Adirondack Lynx highlighting the Sport Management Department's annual SoccerFest. The men's game will kick off at 1 PM, while the women's game will begin at approximately 3:30 PM. Both games will take part at Rudd Field. Zack Simmons has been named one of 16 finalists for the UMBRO/Soccer News Net Player of the Year Award as announced on Wednesday. Online fan voting accounts for 40 percent of the total points towards the award. The fan voting starts on Wednesday, Dec. 26 and runs through Thursday, Jan. 3. Simmons is one of four players to represent programs in the Northeast. The UMass men's soccer team played with pride and determination but were not able to overcome No. 5 seed Ohio State as the Buckeyes defeated the Minutemen, 1-0, on Friday night in the College Cup. Ohio State's Eric Edwards scored in the 52nd minute for the game's only goal. Zack Simmons made six sensational saves for UMass. The Minutemen finish the season at 17-8-1. Ohio State, now 17-3-5, advances play Wake Forest in Sunday's championship game.
