Men's Track sprinter Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng competes at IC4A Championships
March 3, 2002
ROXBURY, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's track and field team competed in day two of the IC4A (American Amateur Athletic Association) Championships along with 64 other teams today at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass. Junior Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng (Accra, Ghana) competed in the finals of the 60M dash finishing second with a time of 6.75 seconds. Before that run, he won his semi final heat with a time of 6.85 seconds. Yesterday in the qualifier, Frimpong-Boateng turned in the fastest time of his heat, also the third-fastest of the day, at 6.91 seconds. UMass also qualified junior Ken Scheider (Wood Ridge, N.J.) in the pole vault but he failed to register a height in Sunday's competition. Overall, the eight points earned by Frimpong-Boateng was the only mark UMass was able to put on the scoreboard. That score placed it in a three-way tie for 30th place overall with West Virginia and Maryland. A total of 57 out of the 64 schools registered to compete earned points including Georgetown, which won the meet with 65 points. In other events yesterday UMass placed 17th out of 33 teams in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:10.43 yet failed to qualify for the finals. The Minutemen also competed in the 4x400 meter relay finishing 30th overall out of 37 teams with a time of 3:24.10. In the 4x800 meter relay, UMass finished 16th out of 27 teams with a time of 7:44.99, again not good enough to qualify for the finals. The Minutemen open their outdoor track and field season Saturday, March 30, at the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J. |
