         <description><![CDATA[UMass hockey head coach Don "Toot" Cahoon announced today that three future Minutemen have signed National Letters of Intent. Casey Wellman will join UMass for the 2008-2009 season, while Anthony Raiola and Eric Filiou will join the squad in 2009. Wellman scored 55 points for the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders of the USHL this season. Raiola was named All-Minnesota Honorable Mention and will play in USHL next year with Sioux Falls, while Filiou will play a second season with the Nanaimo Clippers (BCHL) after being named the league's Rookie of the Year.]]></description>

Looking to turn things around, former UMass All-American goaltender Jon Quick was given the starting nod over Jonathan Bernier who started Game 1. Despite succumbing to the AHL's top team, Quick was spectacular in giving Manchester a chance.          <description><![CDATA[The UMass Hockey team held its annual Reverse Raffle and Banquet this weekend to celebrate the 2007-2008 season. The coaching staff presented a number of awards, voted by the players, to members of the team who helped the squad on and off the ice throughout the duration of the season. Among the awards presented were the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards. The Minutemen also honored the team's six graduating seniors, Matt Burto, Patrick Dineen, P.J. Fenton, David Leaderer, Mike Kostka, and Assistant Equipment Manager Mike Scire. Each senior was given a gift to thank them for all of their efforts over the past four seasons. Head Coach Don "Toot" Cahoon also announced the captains for the 2008-2009 season. Cory Quirk and Brett Watson will wear the "C" for the Minutemen next season.]]></description>

Dainton posted a 2.01 GAA and made a combined 54 saves for the Minutemen and finished the weekend with a .930 save percentage. Dainton and the Minutemen finished off their final weekend of the regular season with the sweep against Merrimack. As a result, UMass secured the eighth and final spot for the Hockey East Playoffs.]]></description>
